UTEN: Technology Commercialization Consultant. Elaine Jones provides assistance with curriculum and materials development and mentoring for UTEN participants, as well as fostering development of a collaborative network among TC stakeholders.

EJJ Associates: She is also the owner of EJJ Associates, which for the last 13 years has helped bridge the gap between engineering /scientific experts and the broader public, including investors, elected officials and stakeholder communities. This has included strategic planning, marketing communications, public relations, training and policy development.

Industry Experience: The full range of environmental businesses (water/wastewater, energy, natural resource development and preservation, conservation, air quality, solid and hazardous waste management) and related issues that cut across many industries, utilities, financial services, legal services, economic forecasting, chemical manufacturing, infrastructure development, state and federal regulatory agencies and legislative and executive branches of government, as well as municipal and state government.

Functional Expertise: Strategic planning for market development, market research, risk communication, service quality education, public policy development and evaluation. Coaching for effective marketing and presentations—including training for foreign executives introducing their products into the U.S. market—regulatory review and analysis, governmental affairs , proposal development for major public and private-sector projects, network development and coalition-building. Evaluation of technologies for commercial potential, technology grant application evaluation.

Professional Experience: Ms. Jones has more than 20 years’ experience working with engineers and scientists who have developed solutions to a wide range of problems for both the public and private sectors. She has designed and presented dozens of seminars for technical experts on how to scope out the markets they must address and communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences. She has worked extensively across the United State and in Mexico, including researching and analyzing investment and market development opportunities. Ms. Jones is part of a translation team that has served several Presidents of Mexico, including Presidents Cedillo, Fox and Calderón, as well as companies conducting business internationally.

Education: Ms. Jones holds a BA in Latin American Studies from Antioch College, an MBA with emphasis in strategic planning from the University of Texas at Austin McCombs Graduate School of Business, and she is currently completing a MS in Technology Commercialization at the University of Texas at Austin.

Personal Interest: She is a licensed massage therapist with certification in geriatric massage. Ms. Jones is also a member of the Austin Film Society and serves as a volunteer for Hospice Austin and the Texas Early Music Project.
