EDUCATION: Sofia Vairinho has Degree in Law by the University of Coimbra (the oldest University in Portugal and one of the more prestigious in Europe), and she is coursing a PhD in Bussiness Law, at Huelva University in Spain.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: Presently Sofia is a Lawyer and Legal Advisor at CRIA / UAlg for 5 years, with experience in:

  • Monitoring and registration of industrial property rights, with emphasis in Patents and Trade marks -brands, to the academic public and to regional enterprises;
    Creation and management of the University Algarve IP rights portfolio (55 Trade-marks and 30 patents);
  • Activities of promotion and assistance of technology and knowledge transfer, from the R&D centres of UAlg to the enterprises, with special emphasis on legal aspects, with focus in contract designing and non-disclosure agreements (From the 30 tecnhologies registered 3 have licences);
  • Application for funding on consortium projects between R&D centres and enterprises;
    Participation and representation of CRIA – UAlg and UIPP – UALG in diffusion events, presenting the scientific and technological portfolio of UAlg to national and international enterprises and other R&D units;
  • Preparation of written opinions, regulations, statutes, contracts, protocols, agreements and other legal documents;
  • Legal creation, and monitoring, of associations and enterprises related to the University of Algarve;
  • Monitoring of the legal procedure for the implementation of the Algarve Science and Technology Park.
  • Monitoring the legal procedures for incubation at the Algarve Science and Technology Park.
  • Support of Knowledge Based Entrepreneurship (responsible for the Entrepreneurship area)
  • Technology Transfer and U-E Cooperation
  • Technology commercialization (Patent and Utility Models)
  • Promotion activities of technology and knowledge transfer

She also collaborates with a Portuguese lawyer’s office. Before that Sofia worked on a real state legal department and in 2002 she worked in a solicitor’s firm in Glasgow – Scotland U.K.

Personal Interest: Sofia is accordionist in a local group in the south of Portugal, with a love for travels and an incredible passion for her family.
