Dr. Gregory Pogue is Interim Deputy Director and Senior Research Scientist at the IC² Institute of The University of Texas at Austin, where he leads research and implementation programs surrounding technology commercialization, early venture creation, and entrepreneurship. Commercialization programs in Portugal, Mexico, Turkey, Colombia and several biomedical initiatives are current areas of focus.
Dr. Pogue brings to The University of Texas extensive technology commercialization experience through senior positions in venture capital, entrepreneurial ventures, technology transfer companies and as a scientific innovator. He served as Vice President of Business Development and Managing Director for Emergent Technologies, Inc. (ETI) venture fund including leading its strategic relationship with Merck & Co. He has held senior management positions (Vice-President to C-level) in six startup enterprises. Of these, one, Large Scale Biology, Inc, realized a successful public offering on the NASDAQ Exchange; one was successfully acquired by a Fortune 500 Company; and three obtained company sustaining product development and sales deals with recognized industry leaders. He has extensive experience obtaining equity investments and substantial competitive research grant funding. Further, Dr. Pogue served in the Office of Technology Commercialization for The University of Texas at Austin where he negotiated licenses with companies ranging from newly formed startups to Fortune 500 enterprises.
Through these experiences, Dr. Pogue has developed particular skill evaluating the commercial potential of new technologies, determining both technical and market trajectories, and building partnerships to effectively commercialize products. With regard to industry-specific experience, Dr. Pogue brings over 25 years of experience in the biotechnology industry (in private industry and at the Center for Biologics in the US Food and Drug Administration), spanning research management, biologic regulation, clinical trail implementation and intellectual property development and licensing.
Dr. Pogue earned a B.S. from Midwestern State University and a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University. He has authored over 45 original scientific articles and reviews, is an inventor on over 18 issued U.S. patents, and is a frequent invited speaker at national and international scientific meetings.
