February 8

Early evening – Initial briefing for participants to get to know one another and set expectations
February 9 – Day 1
9:00 – 9:30 – Registration, coffee and setting in for the opening session
9:30 – 10:00 – UTEN and Workshop Introduction
- Opening comments from Manuel Heitor – Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Higher Education
- Introduction and overview of UTEN and Workshop Procedures and Objectives by UTEN Directors Dr. José Mendonça and Dr. David Gibson
10:00 – 12:30 – Introduction of major themes
- Dr. Steven P. Nichols: Integrated Technology Commercialization
- Introduction of Portuguese “living” cases and participants
- Erin Defosse: New Strategies for the 21st Century Incubator
- Laura Kilcrease: Technology Commercialization Valuing the Idea
- Interactive discussion with all workshop attendees (Q&A)

9:00 – 10:45 – Panel Discussion: in‐depth discussion and setting measurable results on each of the four
themes with group interaction and identification of key issues and challenges to be addressed in Day 2.
10:45 – 11:15 – Coffee break and assemble for Break‐Out discussions
11:15 – 12:30 – Break‐Out sessions
12:30 – 14:00 – Lunch (this time will be allotted for networking and discussion)
14:00 – 15:30 – Break‐Out Discussions
15:30 – 15:45 – Coffee break
15:45 – 17:00 – Wrap up Panel Discussion with US content experts and Portuguese participants –
present initial draft of action initiatives – discuss plans for subsequent UTEN Workshops to be attended by all workshop participants.
10:00 – Dinner in Lisbon (optional)
