Workshop Description
Social entrepreneurs are the new and unlikely heroes at the World Economic Forum meetings in Davos. They are becoming a driving force for societal change and business innovation, leading the rising field of social enterprise. What does it mean to be a social entrepreneur? What do social entrepreneurs do that is unique and why do they succeed in addressing profound societal problems in areas where governments, markets and charities have failed?
This workshop will introduce the growing field of social entrepreneurship and discuss the role of technology and innovation in developing effective solutions to the world’s most intractable problems.
Specific Goals
- Clarify the concept and mechanism of SE and the role that corporations can play in driving social innovation
- Introduce the ecosystem players for social entrepreneurship in Portugal, identifying their main oportunities and challenges
- Reflect upon the role of tecnology transfer and innovation as enabling mechanism for SE
- Share best practices and experience between TTOs and SE practitioners, creating a platform for discussing future projects at the interface between SE and tech innovation.
