SESSION I: Trends in Nano Sciences: challenges from industry and how universities and research institutes are meeting those needs
This session hopes to capture the essence of challenges facing the nanotechnology industry from around the world. This session will examine current trends and challenges for industry segments in the world that rely on nanotechnology for solutions.
We will also explore the ways in which research institutions around the world are aligning to help meet those challenges. Practical insight will be gained into the role that Public Private Partnerships between University and Industry can play from a commercialization stand point. We will examine typical forms of university and industry interface. We will also examine typical styles of U-I interface along with expected contribution of effort, resources and talent from both sides of the equation which are necessary to support successful collaboration in the nano technology space.

Hands-on Session: Evaluating Your Equity Position
Brian Korgel, Paul Thurk, David Secher, Heath Naquin
This session will provide direct training and case studies on the strategic use of equity in the growth of new ventures. We will examine example startup company equity experiences and lessons learned. Both the investment and entrepreneurial side of this topic will be examined. A key component of this workshop will be delving into the experiences of successful nanotech entrepreneurs and examining the strategic utilization of equity for venture growth. We will examine when equity should be given in a research focused venture in the nano field. We will discuss the impacts of dilution on long term equity grants to non-participants. We will also examine the equity equation from the venture capital perspective as we explore the typical equity requirements of venture capital. We will discuss issues such as control, voting rights and long term dilution. Participants will be provided with sample term sheets for negotiation and should come away with a good understanding of the strategic use of equity for venture growth.
